Re: Bowie Grays
In Response To: Bowie Grays ()

My great great grandfather John Newton Foster served with the Texas 19th Infantry during the war from Oct. 1861 until he was wounded at the battle of Jenkins’ Ferry in April of 1864. He originally enlisted on June 28, 1861 at Boston, Bowie County Texas with Capt. George Morris, Co. K of Col. W. C. Young’s Regiment of Texas Volunteers. I have seen this unit from Bowie County referred to as the Bowie Gray’s, until it was mustered into the CSA service on Oct. 2, 1862.
