Barbara Van Buren,

Your Wm. Reed may be in my records. Notice that one Mr. Reed was killed on Nov 19, 1861 at the Battle of Round Mountain, about 15 miles northwest of Tulsa OK, even though Mr. Reed is not listed in Capt. C. S. Steward's Volunteers' Oct 7, 1861 muster. Keep in mind that many died-in-the-wool Confederates joined military units while they were marching to battle, esp. in Indian Territory or Missouri.

This Captain Charles S. Stewart was also killed on Nov 19, 1861 at the Battle of Round Mountain. Part of the Capt. Stewart's Volunteers' records were found in the BOURLAND PAPERS, which leads me to believe that Stewart was a good friend of Col. James Bourland. And yes, Bourland was in the Battle of Round Mountain.

If you will send me an e-mail, I will try to help you locate your Wm. Reed. Please glance at my website, www.bourlandcivilwar.com that describes my 998-page book about the Civil War era in North Texas. .. Patti, prochette@Juno.com
