Re: 4 th Texas Cavalry & Monnet's Ferry

Jim,

Thanks for the kind words. After my earlier response to you I went home and started looking at some other books on the subject and lo and behold , I forgot to tell you about one of the most interesting books about the 4th Texas Cavalry. The book is basically a story ( non fiction) written by a participant of the 4th's operations: Theophilus Noel. Noel wrote two books about his experiences with the 4th. The earliest one , written in the 1800's , after the war, is the better of the two . The other one was written in the early 1900's ( published in 1904) and not as well written. The first editions of both are expensive and hard to find. I have both , I lucked into both of them for very fair prices. The late historian Martin H. Hall basically edited the modern edition of the first book ( in the 1950 -60s) . I 'll look for the exact title tonight. But my point is that Noel's first book really goes into detail about who got wounded, sick and killed , where and when from the Sibley Brigade's departure from San Antonio in the fall of 1862 until their surrender. Lot's of detail . I'll get the title of the book to you later today. It would probably be worth your time in tracking it down at a library to see if you are that interested in buying a copy from a seller.
Regards, Craig
