Here are two sources of information about the engagement at Monett's Ferry. THE RED RIVER CAMPAIGN by Ludwell Johnson (Reprinted in paperback in 1993 by Kent State University Press)and an Article from the SOUTWESTERN HISTORICAL QUARTERLY (Vol.78,#1, July 1974) entitled "Hamilton Bee in the Red River Campaign of 1864. The 4th Texas was in a defensive position at Monett's Ferry. Although they were bombarded by the Union artillery, they didn't take an active part in the fighting.
