Re: WBTS NEWS: Scandinavians in CSA !

Sir,
I do thank you for the proposal offered to me. The SCV are not unknown over here, and of those who are active are from what I know members of the organization. The status of these I know little about. There was or are a European Brigade in the SCV AoT. I beleive the AoT do have more information about the status and work in the unit.

Personally, I do not have any ancestors on either side in the WBTS, so I can`t be a member in SCV nor SUV. My personal interest in the WBTS are to forward the history about the War to honor the over 7.ooo men of my country that participated and that have been forgotten in my countrys history. My main project are to tell about the War in our own language on the Net, so that students have a place to get information. In addition it have envolved into several areas - like a radio (WBTS Radio) and several other websites to promote and preserve unit history - like 7th Texas Inf and 3rd Texas Cavalry.

All of these now are to be found at:- http://www.wbts.info

I do beleive there are an interest amoung ancestors of Scandinavian Confederates - if one can get hold of them. Many do not know that they have ancestors that were a part of War. This is the status of these that are living in Scandinavia. For ancestors in the US many know of their ancestors participation. For the Norwegians part - 90% are to be found in Texas - counties of McLennan,Kaufman and Bosque. The city of Clifton,Bosque are "The Norwegian Captiol of the South". All the Norwegian ancestors there can become members of SCV because almost 100% of the men did take part in the War.

There were a number of Scandinavians in Louisiana units, but to get hold of ancestors of these are to look for the famous "needle in the heystack".

For Danes and Swedes - the states of Georgia,Virginia,North and South Carolina are the main areas to look for ancestors due to old settlements as far back as the 16th century.

As you understand - to find ancestors of the Scandinavian confederates today are not an easy task - either to be found in Europe or in the US. I am sure there are several that would like to be a member of the SCV if they had the chance, but it all comes down to how one would work toward the problem - either offensive or defensive recruitment. I believe the latter are the easiest one - create a camp and those who want to be a member would sign in - with the right credentials, of course - over the long run.

Anyway, these are my thoughts on the subject as a bystander. I have - as told - no ancestors on either side of the War, so to build up either a SCV or SUV camp are not in my reign to start due to ancestry - not interest. Secondly, I have to take care of the interest of both sides, since my involvement are based on nationality and history - not ancestry.

I hope you understand, Sir.

With best regards,
