Dear William,

I've read "Cottonclads" and the maps of the engagement in the bay and the fighting downtown are very good. In looking at the map of the land engagement and comparing it to a modern street map of Galveston, it appears that the shoreline extends farther into the water today than it did in 1863. I live in Kingwood (NE of Houston), so I visit Galveston frequently. I've never seen any historical markers detailing the fighting in the town.

Regarding the Civil War era map, do you know if this map is in the Atlas of the Official Records?
