Re: Could there have been a transfer?

Soldiers and Sailors system is back up now.

There was a W.R. Lovelace in the 8th Confederate Cavalry (Wades) Co K. This soldier's rank was listed a private in and private out.

In the 19th Texas Cavalry Co K. (Burford's) there was a William Lovelace.
Sergeant in, Sergeant out.

I suppose that the different recorded names and ranks suggests that there was no transfer? Addtionally William Ray Lovelace was a middle aged Physician at the outbreak of the war and it seems odd that he would serve in any capacity other than that of a medical officer.

Additionally his son B.F. Lovelace served with the 4th Ga Co D from Troup Co GA (right across the state line from Chambers Co AL) So that adds weight to the idea that William's family was still in Chambers Al at the outbreak of the War.

I haven't checked for pension records but because he was a physician, I seriouly doubt he would have filed for a pension.

Anyone have any suggestions how I can determine whether either of these men are my ancestor?
