Jack DuBose,
In order to trace your J.K. DuBose's travels, you need to track Captain W.C. McKamey since DuBose was his 1st Sgt. or right hand man who kept the records. Below are the "DuBose" and "McKamey" entries from my 134-page Name Index.
McKamey' Company K was transferring prisoners to Dallas according to an Apr 1865 letter from Col. H. E. McCulloch.
Notice that "J.C. McKamey" enrolled in a Lamar County militia then later enrolled in a Young County militia to protect the North and West Texas settlers from marauding Indians and outlaws. This pattern of enrolling first in East Texas then sent to North and West Texas is graphically illustrated in my book -- a major contribution to Texas history. ... Additionally, in some cases, the occupying soldiers were not appreciated by the locals.
