The 17th TX Cavalry WAS NOT at the Battle of Mansfield!!! The 17th TX Consolidated Dismounted Cavalry did see action at Mansfield. Therefore, I was simply trying to separate the two units for you. The 17th TX Consolidated Dismounted Cavalry was composed of the elements of the 17th TX Cavalry, among others, not captured at Arkansas Post.

You are correct - being dismounted had nothing to do with this thread, except for the fact that TX cavalry units that fought as infantry were refrred to as "Dismounted Cavalry."
