You might want to check "The Young Lions, Confederate Cadets at War, James Lee Conrad, Stackpole Books, 1997.

In a footnote re the Bastrop Academy the author states: "In a letter to the author, Bruce S. Allardice identified more than eighty independent military schools and academies operating in the South on the eve of the Civil War. Allardice is currently working on an in-depth history of the Southern military school antebellum alumni's wartime contribution to the Confederacy's military leadership."

I did a couple of searches and didn't find that he published on this subject.
