Thanks Bill. I have tried to understand the beginnings of the 27th TX Cavalry, but I am still confused. You explanation helps alot. This supplements the other thread about the casualties at Iuka. One of my ancestors enlisted in Co. K, but that was in San Augustine. I believe he fought at Pea Ridge, but perhaps his company was not consolidated by that time?
