Re: Texas men buried in Shady Grove Cem. at Iuka..
I know my great-great-great uncle George Ellison was KIA at the battle of Iuka. We have a photocopy of his enlistment papers into the 3rd Texas Cavalry (presently with my sister, Carol Conway of Austin, Texas). I believe 3rd Texas mustered in Dallas. I intend some day to visit Iuka and plant a Texas flag for him. His brother, Meredith Hugh (my great grandfather), served with Ross' Brigade. The only link we have is a ribbon from a reunion of Ross' Brigade in Longview, Texas in the 20's. My aunt kept the ribbon in a snuff jar until her death. At the time of enlistment the family would have been at Gray Rock, Texas, near present Mt. Vernon. Gray Rock long ago disappeared.
