I teach a Civil War Course in Dripping Springs(cont. education for adults) where I tell the other half of the story. In History, the winner of wars get to write the story. That is when "history" is spelled with a double "s". His Story. The winners more the not leave out the other sides view point. The French put it this way, "A half truth is a whole lie." Therefore you get the south fighting for slavery, for the south to be in the wrong, and that the Black and White shouldn't hate each other but....sic'em. Called divide and control. Ever wonder why an anti social group like the Black Panthers was allow to continue even when it was proven to be anti-social? So I invite you to read my website: http://rebelyell1.com. It is a bit long but it will give you some things at are not in the history books. And some pictures and bio's on some of the Souths better generals. That, too, is a myth that we had all the good generals, and that is why they had problems winning during the first part of the war. We had four real good generals: Lee, Jackson, Cleburne, and Forrest. Just enough to keep the yankees off balance. The course I teach is six 1.5 hour classes in 3 weeks. And I only get to the military stuff in the last two classes. The first four classes is all social and all the things that started this mess. You can read what I have within about 30 minutes time. I hope you will take the time to learn more about your family and why a non-slave owner would fight and die gladly even after the Jan.1, 1863 paperwork. Have a great day.
