The museum did not invest any money at all, to my knowledge. The "flag" is just on loan to the museum. It was purchased by a Brenham man named Kaylor Koonce in Tennessee a few years ago. I asked him what he paid for it, but he would not tell me. In the article about the flag, the newspaper did say it was "thought to be" the flag of the Second Texas. I know there is a lot of bogus stuff circulating, but out of curiosity, what makes you think it is a fake. I haven't seen it, but even if I did, I would not know how to tell if it was the real thing.

I was planning to gin up a program for our local Historical Society using this flag as an exhibit, but I'm having second thoughts now. That would make me feel like such a dope to base a program on a fake flag.
