Hopefully someone out there can help me with some research I am doing on a flag I have owned for a few years. It is hand stitched, wool, I believe, and measures 30x30 inches.
It is a red, white and green tricolor, with the stiched loop for the staff on the red protion. In the center is printed " P.E. BATTALON/GUERRERO/TEXAS GUARD/HOUSTON/ Feb. 1862." The printing is in sepia-toned block letters and identical to some that I have seen on Civil War and earlier period flags. It is in good shape, but there are numerous small holes and one measuring about 3 inches across on the border of the red and white portions. There is no question is posesses a considerable degree of antiquity
I do know the flag of the Mexican P.E. Battalon Guerrero was captured during the Texas Revolution and I believe resides in the Texas State Library.
Can anyone shed more light on this artifact?
