Ken Legendre alerted me to this flag today and in looking at the picture the flag is indeed a fake. If the gentleman who bought it got it in Tennessee then that adds a great deal to it being fake as there are some fake flag makers in the Bristol, TN area. I did a police report for the Bristol PD several years ago when these men sold three fake flags to a collector in Texas and they refused to give back his money.

The 2nd Texas flag depicted is simply too small for a unit color and it is the wrong pattern. I would bet that the stars are only sewn on one side of the flag too and that the unit designation is done with ink and not paint as was typically used back then. We know they had a Texas state flag and a CS First National during their war career and, so far, none of these survive today.

You may want to alert the museum in Brenham about this.
