Thanks, R.D. I took a look at Martin's Regiment and it certainly looks as if John M. McKinney might be the same person in both regiments. I wonder how I could prove the connection? Also, any idea as to why someone would have transferred from the 16th Texas Cavalry to the 5th? Looks like the 5th Partisan Rangers spent a lot of time in Indian Territory and hunting down deserters.
