Re: 11th Texas Infantry ( Robert's Regiment)

Great news! Since your ancestor enlisted in Rusk, Cherokee County there is a muster roll of the company at the county courthouse. His name is transcribed as Clint BAREFIELDS- probably a phonetic spelling- so you could search under this name. Widows pension # 26856 for Mrs. Martha Wallace mentions this surname but not this soldier. There are 1880 names on the Feb 15, 1864 Indigent Families List for Cherokee County so you may find a little information on the list but the location of death could probably best be found looking through the writings of his comrades. If I were you, I would check the United Confederate Veterans records for the Ross-Ector Camp #513 which should be held in Cherokee County and LSU-Baton Rouge because sometimes comrades would mention their fallen friends and give details unable to be found anywhere else. Hill College at Hillsboro Texas has files on various units and occasionally transcriptions of war-time letters which also could be a source for you. The Texas Portal (old newspapers that are online, as well as other sources) might be worth a search, too. http://texashistory.unt.edu/search/

Hope this helps!

Good hunting!
