The Texas in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Co.K Mounted Volunteer Regt., Col J.E. McCord,

I am looking thru the information about McCord's unit and stumbled on these messages.
My great grandfather was initially in this unit. William S. Wilkerson. He was a Texas
Ranger and then in the war and then a ranger again for a couple of years afterwards.
He died in Hext, Menard County in 1933.
The only information I have on his service in the war is from a statement he wrote for his
when his brother in law filed for a pension. He stated he was in McCord's regiment and later
transferred to Black's regiment. I also have picture of him in his uniform and his arm
patch indicates he may have been a quarter master sergeant. My mom used to tell me that
he always spoke of being in the indian wars. He was under a Capt. William Kuffus.
I really don't have any more information than that. Is there any where I can find out more?
Linda
