Re: Likens 35th Texas Cavalry Roster

George,
I don't mean to be contradictory, but I done considerable research on the veterans of Likens' 35th Texas Cavalry. Henry C. Taylor in Co F of Brown's 35th Texas Cavalry is not the same Henry C. Taylor in Co F of Likens's 35th Texas Cavalry.

The 1860 Census shows Henry C. Taylor, age 15, living with his mother in Ft. Bend, County. The NARA records show Henry C. Taylor enlisted in 1862 in Co F of Brown's Rgt at Camp Nellie in Matagorda County (adjacent to Ft. Bend County). Young Henry entire service was in Brown's Rgt.

Henry Taylor, age 40 in 1860 was living with his wife Sarah and children in Cherokee County. Cherokee County has kept a record by company of men enlisted during the war. According to county records Henry C. Taylor of Cherokee County enlisted in Capt Wiggins company which became Company F of Likens' 35th Texas Cavalry. Sarah Taylor married Henry in 1851. Henry died in 1882 and in 1899, Sarah filed the widow's pension which also confirms his age. Both witnesses were in Company F of Likens' 35th Rgt. One witness was the captain of Company F, John T. Wiggins.

I know it can be confusing with men of the same name, especially with the middle initial of "C." There has always been confusion between Likens' 35th and Brown's 35th. There are a few NARA records under Brown's 35th who, according to my research, actually served in Likens' 35th.
