Thanks for the plug, Jim. The book has gone to the printer, and should be available by the end of August or early September. There will be enough new information in the book for even the most hard-core Red River Campaign student, along with information about the fort not related to that campaign. And for those of you descended from those wild and crazy guys of Major James Burnett's 1st Texas Sharpshooters Battn., this is the first modern-day coverage of their escapades in the USS Indianola affair. And of course, Walker's Division gets its share of coverage, too.

There are indeed earthworks still to be seen at Fort DeRussy, and anyone who can make it to the reenactment scheduled for this November 30-December 2 is encouraged to attend. The fort property is still undeveloped, but money has been set aside for the project and planning for a visitor center should soon be underway - so if you want to see the fort in its "before" state, you need to come soon.
