Re: 18th TX Cav/Morgan's TX Cav. Regiment

Wes, the men of Morgan's Battalion/Regiment were very hard to follow. They were Morgan's men but in name only. Most fought under different leaders and most never even met Morgan or fought with him. The different Companies usually listed their Company commanders as as their unit rather than use numerical names. Reason for this was because there Company desigation was used often more than once. According to author Anne Bailey there were 2 Co, A's,1 Co. B,1 Co. C,2 Co. D's,3 Co. E's,2 Co. F's,2 Co. G's,1 Co. H,1 Co. I, and 1 Co.K . But most never even fought with each other. These men where made up from units of the 15th,17th,18th after reaching Arkansas and some ended up with other units. The only Davis I found for Co. E of the 18th was Pvt. J.U. Davis captured at Arkansas Post, imprisioned at Camp Douglas, died and was buried on 14th Feb.,1863 at CSA Mound in Chicago,Illinois. But which company E this is I do not know. One of the Co. E's was commanded by Alf Johnson, one by Thomas James, and another by R.B. Carr. So while Morgan was not at Arkansa Post, some of his units were.
