Re: 1860 Henry Rifle, 19th Texas

What Povost covered the many independent regiments that were being recruited in 1861,2,3. I have not run across a Povost until the units operated in a Brigade under a Division. Did the the Military Districts have this function. At what point did they get to this capability. Most Commanders collected their bad troops and conducted their own Courts Marshal. Also many units allowed troops to go to town to resuply, for forage, to get sutlery or re-shoe a horse when the unit did not have a farrier or blacksmith. These soldiers carried weaponds for protection from the rifraf. Also they often had to travel a great distance to return to their unit.
I probably agree about there being no Henry rifles in the Texas Armories, but I am not sure about the props, unless it was a fake. I know that Cavalry troops that had been Rangers did not go about without their Bowie Knife, a pistol or two and sometimes a shotgun. I was not aware of sherriffs taking weapons that early. I may be beating a dead horse, but I am courious.
