Lori Roemmich's question/s:

I have Asher G. (A G Hardin) Hardin in 3 Texas Cavalry Co D and James J. Hardin in 2 Texas Infantry is that not correct?
.
.
1) Asher Garner Hardin. Yes, chances are good that he was in 3rd TX Cav--South Kansas-TX Mounted Volunteers, Company D. ... usually called the "South KS-TX Regt."
.
2) James J. Hardin. I seriously doubt that he was in the 2d Texas Infantry. I have him listed as being in "Rutherford's Infantry" which is much more likely since most of Rutherford's men lived in Hunt and Fannin Counties. Rutherford's men worked in parallel with Bourland's Regt toward the end of the Civil War when the records were increasingly fragmented, the emphasis of my 1,046-page book.
.
Notice, "J.I. Harden" is also listed in Company D of the 3rd TX Cav--South Kansas-TX Mounted Volunteers. Key is that this service is toward the beginning of the War. I'd bet that this is a mistranscription of "J.J. Hardin" ... don't forget that I've transcribed, and alas, mistranscribed, hundreds of pages of original Civil War era records.
