If might be worth mentioning that during the war Federal military treatment of civiilans made Missouri much like Viet Nam. Many civilians were arrested or killed or suffered in some way as Southern sympathizers. If this man belonged to an unorganized band and fell into Federal hands he was fortunate simply to be arrested. Those records could be located in the NARA collection Unfiled Papers and Slips. I have seen records of many civilians from Missouri in that collection.
