The only criticism of Confederate actions that date of which I am aware is addressed to Hoke's failure to support Field, a criticism which I feel is entirely warranted. From everything I have read, and I don't pretend to be an expert, Anderson's men behaved gallantly that day, unsupproted as they were.The real fault, however, was that by this stage of the war to assualt entrenched troops frontally was a step short of suicide.
