A message of Osman Latrobe, AAG for GEN Longstreet, to BGEN Martin W. Gary, on 17 Nov 64, states, in part, "Wood's battalion will remain under your command, and you are charged with its care and attention to the duties it is now performing." O.R., Vol. 42, pt. 3, p. 1218. I can find no other reference to "Wood's Battalion, either in the O.R. or elsewhere. I have tentatively assumed it may have been a Virginia reserve or militia unit detailed to assist Gary in holding the COnfederate left north of the James. Can anyone offer any help on Woo's BN, its commander, and how it came to be associated with Gary's Cavalry Brigade?
