My best advice to you is to "start with yourself and work backwards". Your father, born in 1924, will probably appear on the 1930 Federal Census. It is difficult work, but help is available in most large city libraries, historical societies and LDS research centers. Family members can be a great help, but sometimes the "obscure cousin" will send you on a "wild goose chase". Good luck with your quest.
