Re: Confederates from Virginia Buried in Savannah,

Ed,
I am glad you are following up on this. One of my collateral ancestors was a Virginian who was a part of the prisoner exchange, but lived to return home. His name was William R. Bosley, a Sergeant in Compay B, 62nd Virginia Mtd. Infantry. He was wounded and captured at 3rd Winchester, 19 September 1864. Are there any soldiers buried there from the 62nd? Granted, the information may be incorrect, so who knows. The larger question for me is what happened to the 3,000 soldiers once they were exchanged? Were they mobilized to defend the city against Sherman, or were they shipped home to wherever their units were in the field? The CSR for Bosley ends with the notation he was exhanged. Is there any historian in the Savannah area who has done research on this exchange? There is very sparse information in the Army and Naval OR on this. I found one illustration from a volume in the Time-Life CW series (the silver books) showing a contemporary drawing of the ships in the bay near Venus Point during the exchange.
Thanks for any information you have...
Sincerely,
Mark
