The Virginia in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Austin Shank - Va 42nd Infantry

Definatley sounds like my husband's great grandfather. He ended up living in Philadelphia. All I have would be names of his wife and children and probably some dates concerning them. His wife's father served in the Union Army during the war. That must have been an interesting relationship!! I was hoping for some family history from Virginia and before - another mystery to solve! I think I saw that he had a brother who served. Not sure about that. I only found Austin by chance on ancestry.com. Your info was very helpful. Thank you so much!!!!! Do you know much about his units involvement at Gettysburg. I was just watching it on the History Channel. It would be great to know more about exacty where they did their fighting on those days. I know he was wounded on the second day.
