I don't know what other elements of Wheeler's command were involved, but Allen's division skirmished in Shinbone Valley, Oct. 23-25 1864, before Sherman determined there was little point in pursuing Hood. Wheeler needed to borrow some artillery and a section of Garrity's Battery reported to him.
