Re: CS Cavalry in northeast Alabama in October '64

Hi Henry. Thanks for the response. Hannon left with Wheeler on August 10th on the raid. On August 14, Hannon was sent to destroy the railroad near Calhoun, and encountered a Union supply detail and over 1500 beef cattle, which he quickly relieved the Federals of. With him on this action were members of the 53rd Alabama Cavalry. They took the cattle to Gen. Hood, and did not complete the raid. However, some members of his brigade did stay with Wheeler, under Williams. Hannon and the 53rd were assigned under Gen. Jackson, and to Gen. Armstrong for the Battle of Jonesboro, and came under Iverson after that time. Upon the reuniting of the brigade after Wheeler's return, they participated in picket duties with Iverson, extending up into northeast Alabama during October '64. Apparently, they followed Sherman back to Atlanta, and were with Wheeler during Sherman's vacation trip to Savannah. I'm trying to solidify my data for the period during the second half of October.
