The ironclad floating battery "Danube" was also at Mobile. Don't know where it was built, but it was, at least for a time, positioned near the mouth of Mobile River. It is my understanding that some of the Mobile Bay batteries were clad with railroad steel taken from the track that ran between Pensacola, FL and Pollard, AL. (Pollard was the junction where this track joined the Mobile-to-Montgomery RR). This track was of no use to the CSA as Pensacola had been abandoned to the Feds.
