I have 3 ancestors (all brothers) that served in the CSA for the 42nd, 37th and 63rd Alabama Infantries; George W. Kierce, Henry Kierce and Daniel Kierce. They originally belonged to the 2nd Regiment of Alabama Volunteers and were from Covington County, Alabama. I am interested in hearing from others who had ancestors in these companies or have more information on these companies. Thanks!

Here is what I have.

George W. Kierce enlisted April 1, 1862 in Captain Brady's Company of Alabama Volunteers, 42nd Alabama Infantry, Company E, Baker's Brigade, Liddell's Division. Mustered in on April 5, 1862 in Greenville, Alabama at age 28. He was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant and eventually Captain of his own company called Kierce's Company. Was granted a leave of absense on October 28, 1863 due to health reasons (severe vericose veins in his legs). George was also a Baptist minister in Alabama.

Daniel Kierce enlisted April 1, 1862 in Captain Brady's Company of Alabama Volunteers, 42nd Alabama Infantry, Company E and eventually the 37th Alabama Infantry, Company I. Mustered in on April 4, 1862 in Greenville, Alabama at age 20. Both George and Daniel were captured during the Siege at Vicksburg on July 4, 1863. Daniel was paroled at Greensboro, North Carolina on May 1, 1865.

Henry Kierce (my gg-grandfather) was mustered into the 63rd Alabama Infantry, Company E on June 24, 1864 at Camp Watts near Notasulga, Macon County, Alabama at the age of 17. He was a member of the 2nd Regiment of Alabama Reserves Company C and Captain Roger's Company of Alabama Reserves. He surrendered at Citronelle, Alabama on May 4, 1865 and was paroled in Meridian, Mississippi on May 13, 1865. He obtained the rank of Corporal.
