Thank you so much for that added information. The W.J. Kierce that you mentioned is his father. I was not sure if he had been invovled in the war or not. This just confirms that. Where did you find this information? I am wondering about the mention of being promoted to Major. George W. Kierce wrote a book about his life in 1918 just before he died and he only mentioned being 2nd Lt. but obviously he was a Captain and possibly a Major unless we are talking about a different Kierce. I am not familiar with the rank progressions.
