Because of the information in this post, I was looking at the muster roll posted at the 42nd AL Infantry website. I was looking for the Kierce's in Co. "E", the McCulloch Avengers, and the roll didn't quite ring true. It appears to be a muster roll of Co. "K" of the 48th MS Infantry (not positive), rather than Co. "E" of the 42nd AL Infantry. I have advised the webmaster. If you are looking at that site, you might want to exercise caution, at least for the time being. The other companies in the list appear to be correct.
