Re: 41st Alabama Inf in Va. Sept. 1864

The book on the 41st Alabama was published in July 2001. The volume is 644 pages in length, comprising 19 chapters and 200 pages of annotted/summarized war records. Extracting all vital statistics from the war records, I built a data base with which to assess and analyze the conglomrate data. This enabled the reconstruction of casuality (KIA, WIA, deaths to illness), POW and desertion lists heretofore lost to history. The storyline was built using 450 largely unpublished letters written by 41st soldiers, including Col. Stansel, Lt. Col Trimmier, Capt Leland, Pvts Hodo, Koon and many more. Other researchers have developed thumbnail sketches of the larger battles the 41st participated in. The letters and the data base fleshes out information about several little known engagements and details about the participation of the 41st in the Siege of Petersburg and final days of battle never published before. The book reports on the POW experience as well as the issues/ problems encountered by the families back home.
