Can you provide any help with the following?

Would like to know if you know whether the ADAH has put the pension applications (approved and denied) on microfilm. If so, are they arranged by counties and then alphabetized within the counties? If not, do patrons have access to them or copies of them (all --both the denied and the approved) or must the patron ask for specific ones? Has anyone ever transcribed all and published?

The only pension application I ever ordered from ADAH was in the early to mid 1970s. My grandmother told me before she died that her father-in-law was a Civil War soldier. Fortunately, he had a tombstone with Co. H, 6th Alabama on it. I wrote to ADAH for his records. They advised me to order from NARA and that all they (ADAH) had was a pension for my g gf and for his wife, which I ordered.

Would love to know of references to Alabama pension laws. Figure there must be some writeups somewhere. When were pensions first granted? How did the law change over time? I mentioned previously on this message board pension applications I viewed in Choctaw Co., Alabama being designated as Class 2 or Class 4. Class 4 ones I viewed were rejected, but because I don't know what Class 4 means, I don't know why they were rejected. Some of the ones that were previously rejected apparently were later approved, for there were receipts for money from the pension fund. Assume since there were Classes 2 and 4 that there must also have been Classes 1 and 3, but I don't know what the classes represent. Figure age, need, disability, and service all play a part in the classes, but....

If you or anyone is aware of a good source of information regarding pension laws, applications, qualifications, and classes, I surely would appreciate knowing it.

Any idea of the total number of soldiers or widows who received pensions?
