Re: Another Teen Soldier-- 8 (Hatch’s) Ala Cav.

Alan,

Many thanks for assistance with C. C. MARTIN's unit and for help with the confusion of identifying proper units for soldiers.

The pension data I have for C. C. MARTIN is someone else's transcribed abstract, so the "Price" certainly could have been a misreading of "Perrin".

I must ask a question that may have an obvious answer to Civil War buffs. I don't recall ever having seen drummers on horses in movie versions of Civil War battles. Is it likely a young 14-year-old soldier had a horse available to take to war during 1863? You did mention that most of the men from this unit were quite young.

Also, I am most interested in anything you might know about Co. G, 8th (Hatch's) Cavalry, as one of my kinsman was in that unit. Isaac MARTIN, Corp., was captured and sent to Camp Morton, Indiana where he died. I have his CSR which I ordered in the 80s, but I am interested in general makeup of the company and service rendered if known.

Thanks for all the great help!
