Re: Confederate Monument at your Courthouse?

There is a monument to the Confederate dead of Greene County at Mesopotamia Cemetery in Eutaw. It is a tall pedistal, inscribed with the names of those who died in Confederate service from the county, I believe. On the other hand there were a few names which didn't make the list, so it seems to be, as many records, incomplete. The pedistal is surmounted by a statue of Confederate private at order arms, facing south. While I have photographed this monument extensively, transcription of the inscription lists remains a part of my on-going research.

In Carrollton in Pickens County there is a large memorial on the east side of the courthouse square. A central pedistal supports a Confederate private, I believe, at parade rest. Flanking the pedistal are statues of a woman clothed in a mid-Nineteenth century day dress (at one time she had a red ribbon in her bunn) and a World War I infantryman, also at parade rest. This memorial is not in front of the Face in the Window, which is on the north side of the courthouse attic. I am uncertain what is inscribed on this monument. Directly in front of the monument is a large caliber mortar, probably WWI ventage (again, I have not examined this monument closely in some time). Soft drink cans and other projectiles have been fired from this small artillery piece with a variety of propellants into oncoming traffic of AL Hwy 17, which enters the square on this the east side. I cannot verify the accuracy or effectiveness of said mortar fire.
