Re: Confederate Monument at your Courthouse?

There is a monument here in my hometown of Opelika. It is near the First Baptist Church on South 8th Street. It sits in a triangle and was dedicated around the turn of the century by the Daughters of the Confederate Veterans. It has a soldier facing North holding a musket. For years there were stories that Confederate soldiers were buried around the monument, but this is not true. There is a Confederate Soldier's area in the old Rose Mary Cemetery in Opelika.
