Thanks for pointing out the error -- obviously I haven't been thinking clearly. The capture date is correct, so death must have occured in 1865. I'm almost certain both documents on microfilm gave the death year as 1864, and I reproduced the error. One gave the date as January 7th; the other as January 8th. Perhaps Harp died during the night. In any case, I'll check to be sure.

Additional note: all of Harp's records were filed with the 11th Alabama Cavalry. Evidently he told his captors he belonged to Co. D, 4th Alabama Cavalry, since all the POW records use that unit designation. However, his name appears on the rolls of Co. "B", 11th Alabama Cavalry. The index citation for Roddey's 4th Alabama Cavalry must be a reference card only.
