The treadway was built by Gen. Gibson's division at Spanish Fort, and allowed most of that garrison to escape the night of April 8th, 1865, after the Federals occupied some of their lines. As far as Blakely, most of the garrison was captured, including Gens. Liddell and Cockrell. Perhaps only a few hundred escaped on boats. My guess is that Huger must not have been there, but I don't know why. I have seen references to 2nd Alabama reserve regiment or 63rd Alabama being under the field command at Blakely of Lt. Col. Law, so perhaps the 1st Alabama reserve regiment or 62nd Alabama was also under field command of their Lt. Col.
