There is nothing in Henry Kinerd's records which indicate such a serious wound at Vicksburg. Given that he remained with the regiment through the end of the war, I suspect his widow was "guilding the lily," so to say, or perhaps, that was his way of loafing!
Henry Kinerd, Private, Company H, 20th Regiment Alabama Infantry, enlisted October 10, 1861 at Marion, Ala. by J. P. Peterson for the war, captured at Vicksburg July 4, 1863, paroled July 8, 1863, paroled May 14, 1865 at Centreville, Ala.

I have walked the line including Square Fort many times as my ggrandfather served about a mile south at Salient Point and re-enforced the Railroad Redoubt, passing by Square Fort, May 22.
See if you can get a member of the Park's history staff to point out points of interest for you. If you could latch onto the Vicksburg National Military Park Historian, Terrence (Terry) Winschel, that would be a great plus.
They also have in their offices in the basement, files on each of the regiments involved at Vicksburg. Ask to go below and review these records. I've pulled out and copied some very interesting diaries there.
Enjoy your visit, it's in my opinion, the best of the CW Military Parks as the opposing lines are well preserved.
