The widow's pension application submitted Dec 8, 1920, mentions colonel as Curry and captain as "Clabe Will Hite." That's Claiborne Lee Willhite, Co "G", 10th Alabama Cavalry. At the end of October 1864 General Roddey consolidated the 5th and 10th Alabama Cavalry and this company became Co "B", 5th Alabama Cavalry, Col J L M Curry. Cannot explain why the original entry was listed as 1st Alabama Cavalry. Since companies assigned to the 10th Alabama Cavalry organized in late 1863, enlistment before that time is doubtful.
Capt Wilhite's memorial lists him as Captain, 28th Alabama Regt. Cannot explain that, either.
