Re: King's Creek near Tupelo MS, May 5, 1863

Bearss - Forrest At Brice's Crossroads, 201 --

Roddey's Division: Patterson's and Johnson's brigades, 1,500.

Col Josiah Patterson
Patterson's 5th Alabama Cavalry
Pickett's 10th Alabama Cavalry

Col William A Johnson
Johnson's 4th Alabama Cavalry
Moreland's Alabama-Mississippi Cavalry

Capt Ferrell's Georgia Battery

Not sure about the two battalions led by Major Williams and Capt Warren. Bearss mentions Jeff Forrest's Cavalry Regiment, which included some of these companies.

Roddey with Johnson's and Moreland's regiments went to Georgia later that month. Troopers had to walk over the portion of track near Auburn that had been destroyed by Rousseau. David Evans, Sherman's Horsemen, 253, describes Roddey's first encounter with Federal raiders at the station, Newnan GA.
