I am wondering if anyone has encountered a confederate soldier's record stating he was killed/died during the conflict and later found that to be incorrect? Is it possible? Not that I mean he "rose from the dead" but just reported erroneously,

I have found this:

28th Alabama Infantry....
Owen, Samuel - Pvt. Co. A
Age - 30
Enlisted 01/24/1862, Marion, AL
Died 08/03/1863, killed by lightning

I believe this man was alive in 1880 in Clark Co., Arkansas. He is not found after that.

How would I find more info on this man confederate service to determine if the same as the one who was Perry Co., Alabama?
