R.D.

Thanks so much for your thoughts...Since the messages here are suggesting my initial hypothesis was likely in error, today I have been re-thinking this line and re-searching the census. Your ideas are certainly valid and are new to me. I definitely agree many moved around and times were in turmoil; it may just be that they were not settled during the enumeration visit and were not found. But....I still am unable to locate Samuel in 1860. Of course, I realize he could be xxxx Samuel, and/or Cynthia may not be the mother of James....but the fact remains Samuel was 50 years of age and alive in 1880.

I have not had a chance to dig through the Clark Co. personal property and real estate tax records and I am thinking about ordering these thru LDS. There is a swamp lands book for Arkansas that needs to be reviewed also, as the index included this name.

Thanks again
Alice
