Re: deaths reported in error
In Response To: deaths reported in error ()

Alice,
The book "The Civil War Letters of Joshua K Callaway" edited by Judith Hallett contains the letters of Callaway, a 28th soldier to his wife.
In a letter dated Wednesday Aug 6 1862, he states that the regiment has lost 5 men since we left Saltillo "2 by lightning" which would make the date of his death Aug 4. Al Dept of Archives Civil War database lists his death as 8/4/1862 also. Certainly is strong evidence that he was killed by lightning. Also there is a reference as to his death shown to be in the Confederate Archives, Chapter Ten, file no.2, page 191. I do not know about this reference, perhaps others on the Board can help.
I have a web page on the 28th at http://home.comcast.net/~edwilson10/New28th.html
I would like to hear from you at edwilson10@comcast.net
Thanks
E. D.
