The following is the Compiled Service Record for Leroy Britt/Brett:

Britt, L. L., New Co. I, Private. He was enlisted as a Private in Company A of the 5th Alabama Infantry Regiment on May 6, 1861, at Grove Hill, Alabama, by Captain J. M. Hall.

He appears on the Company Muster Rolls for the period May 13 to June 30, 1861 listed as “Absent – Sick at Richmond Virginia.”. He appears on the Regimental Return for June 1861 listed as “Absent – Sick left at Richmond June 17.”

He appears on the Company Muster Rolls for the balance of 1861 listed as “Present”.

He was captured on July 5, 1863, on the retreat from the Battle of Gettysburg. He appears on a register of Prisoners of War at Fort Delaware, Delaware, that were received on July 7, 1863. He appears on a register of Prisoners of War forwarded from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on July 7, 1863. He appears on the Company Muster Rolls for 1864 listed as “Absent – Captured at Gettysburg Pa. July 1, 1863.”

He does not appear to be with the his regiment after the Battle of Gettysburg (July 5, 1863).
